Holy Yoga is Christ focused. What does that mean?

Many people I encounter have been directed by their physician to attend yoga classes with hopes to lessen anxiety, relax, stretch and strengthen their body. This sounds well intended, but what about folks who feel yoga is focused on a Hindu spiritual practice and is concerned about dishonoring God or bringing a spiritual practice into their life unknowingly? How might they still benefit from the stretching, strengthening and stillness?

As a Christ follower, we need to be cautious about any classes that direct you to "find your true self" through yoga.  I believe our life journey is to seek God and glorify Him alone (Matthew 6:33). At the Life Span Studio, class time is led to guide you into focusing on Him and what He is doing in your life, being grateful and giving Him praise.

This class is not about "emptying your mind" or "finding your self" while you stretch and strengthen. God directs us to  focus on things above (Colosians 3:2, "set your mind on things above, not earthly things").

We begin each session listening to a bible verse ("Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God", Romans 10:17). We ask God to speak to us through His Word to renew our mind and test and approve His will (Romans 12:2).  Next, I lead us in prayer. We warm up our body with stretches to lengthen our spine, stretch our hips, legs, etc. We move into strengthening positions. Our session ends in a relaxing position of reflection (Psalm 46:10, "Be still and know that I am God.")
